Standing in Brisbane's Bray Park, Peter Dutton positions himself as a champion for Australia's aspiring homeowners, promising to tackle what he describes as a housing affordability crisis that has left the dream of home ownership "dashed over recent years."

"We are going to restore the dream of home ownership again to young Australians," Dutton declares, outlining a package of measures aimed at first-time buyers struggling to enter the market amid rising costs and interest rates.

The Coalition's housing plan centers on three key initiatives: enabling a smaller 5% deposit for buyers, allowing young Australians to access superannuation funds "to get a deposit together more quickly," and introducing tax deductibility for mortgage interest on loans up to $650,000.

"That's about $1,000 a month, and that's incredibly important," Dutton emphasizes, highlighting the immediate financial relief the policy would provide to mortgage holders.

Dutton places blame for the housing crisis squarely on Labor's immigration policies: "Labor's had a big Australia policy where they've brought a million people in over the last two years, which is a 70% increase on any two-year period in our country's history."

The opposition leader frames his housing affordability pitch as part of a broader appeal to younger voters. When questioned about strategies to reach millennial and Gen Z voters, Dutton responds: "I think there are many reasons why young Australians would want to vote for a coalition at this election."

With housing affordability consistently ranking among top voter concerns, Dutton's promise is unambiguous: "I want to be the prime minister of home ownership and home accessibility and home affordability."
