Labor Secures Historic Victory: Albanese Celebrates Diverse Parliament with Record 57% Women

Among the government's first priorities, Albanese announced that the first piece of legislation to be introduced would be a 20% reduction in student debt. "Young people deserve a fair crack and we want to look after them," he said, emphasizing the government's commitment to intergenerational equity.

The Prime Minister also highlighted Australia's world-leading legislation banning social media for under-16s as an example of how "Australia can lead the world in progressive legislation dealing with these new challenges."

Companies including the Commonwealth Bank were referenced as Albanese reflected on how employment patterns have changed since his youth, when he "started work at the Commonwealth Bank the following Monday" after finishing high school exams.

Albanese's victory speech received congratulations from international leaders including US President, UK Prime Minister, French President Macron, and His Majesty the King, underscoring Australia's restored global standing.
